I'm totally lost...What does it mean for an anemone to be bleached? How can you tell if an anemone is bleached? My light fixture has moonlights, blue metal hallide lights, and white metal hallide lights. How long should I have my lights on each day? Thankx for the info;)

An anemone is bleached (( white and/or translucent in color )) when it expels its Zoax (( internal algae that provides a great amount of its energy needs )). It can expel it for numerous reasons -- too little light, too much light too soon, poor water conditions, etc.

This is a picture of a bleached LTA (( in this case not sure what caused it, it was shipped to me this way ))

And this is what it looked like a month later after it had recovered.

In addition to what Todd said, high water temperatures can also lead to anemones and corals expelling their zooxanthellae. Target feeding a bleached anemone provides food for the anemone and also food for the developing zooxanthellae colonies. The majority of an anemones food is derived from the algae, so it's especially important to feed an anemone when it's bleached.

Okay, so I have a rock anemone who has been healthy ever since I got him. I just noticed that he is bleached. Is there anything else I can do? I also have a haddoni so I don't think it's had too much light. But it is on the bottom of my 72g kinda' under another rock maybe a little shaded. I moved it up closer to the lights. Any other advice? Thankx for all the help!

With the increased light it should regain its zooxanthellae. I would feed it a few times a week if I were you.
