Bleached Clam?

I bought a crocea clam roughly a month ago, and it seems like it is "bleached". Everthing i have ever read is that clams can get enough light. its on the sand in my 24g AP under a 150w 14k MH. This definetely doesnt seem to me like this would be too much light? Any experience/suggests with this? I feed DT's at least every other day? Any parameters that I should look at?

how old is the light?

if he is bleaching you should slowly move him up in the tank.

Move him up if he's bleach??? thats the oposite of what you do with blaeched corals...is that right?

clams usually bleach from to much light to fast or a lack of light. if this is not an acclimation problem ( light shock ) then it is from a lack of light. the zooxanthellae that lives in the clams mantle requires large amounts of light. if it is not receiving enough to support the zoox the mantle will lose the zoox and turn white ( bleached )

PS the crocea is the most light demanding tridacnid clam.

remember slowly, no need to shock him by moving up 1" from the light.

figured i'd move him up halfway. how long do i give it to not improvement?

if he dumps more zoox soon after moving up then he has been shocked by moving him up to far to fast. other wise the recovery will be slow but necessary.

Hate to piggyback the thread, but I figured I'd make use of the experts weighing in on your situation. I just got a Crocea 2.5" and I have him on the sandbed of my 29 gal Biocube. Clams are something I have never kept and have always kind of actually been afraid of their lighting requirements. I have 150 W MH 14K and keep SPS at a mid level in the tank, do you think the clam will do ok on the sandbed or shall I start making a spot for him? My light sits about 6 inches off of the water. Thank you very much

i would move him up with the SPS, your lighting is the bare minimum for the crocea and he will do alot better up on the rocks.
