Bleached Wilsoni

All Delight

I was offered a bleached out Wilsoni. It's really cheap and I know what it looked like when it was in its prime. It's 95% white, the flesh is still in pretty good condition with very small hints of the original color coming back.

My question is how long will it take to come back at least 80%?

I had chaclies that got bleached, the flesh was fine, just transparent, and it took about 2 months before they were back to normal.

It's really hard to tell. Ever coral adapts differently. Just take it slowly and feed when it's ready.

I'm debating if its worth the babysitting. I wish I had a frag tank to let it heal up. I hate eye sores in my display tank.

No reason to whack a coral that might recover. At minimum, see if someone else will give it a try.

I'm not whacking it. I don't even own it. I'm considering the option of buying it at a huge discount with the knowledge of having to nurse it back.

It won't color up overnight; 2 months is probably about right. Whether you want to place a coral like that in your display is up to you. Check out my Rescue Coral thread if you're looking for some inspiration.

Best of luck to you, and if you were local, I'd definitely offer to rescue it! :)

Wow great thread and definately an inspiration. He wants $50 for it, which imo is on the high side for the condition its in. But I know its a very pretty coral in all its glory. I think I'll give it a shot. In 2 months it'll be Valentines day, a gift to myself.

Oy, I hope that's a big Wilsoni colony! I'm a bit cheap when it comes to my rescues though - freebies and $20/under are the only ones I take. But, you should have good luck with it only being bleached out. Just make sure to feed it about 3x per week until it gets most of the color back. I recommend a mixture of food - pureed shrimp/clams/oysters/seaweed/etc. Rod's is a good blend if you don't make your own.

If you get it, we want before & after pics!!!
