Blenny Kills Snails!

Anyone else have a Combtooth Blenny who kills snails?? I dropped four Nass snails into the tank tonight and the Blenny grabbed one immediately and tore it up. Grabbed another one a min later. And stalked them after we scared him away! Peeked around the corner of the LR and watched them for movement for a good 15 mins and then gave up and went elsewhere. But what the hell??? Is he insane or something?! I thought he was supposed to be a vegetarian!

That is very interesting. I have a problem with my bicolor blenny right now. He is tearing apart my chocolate chip star fish. He has eaten part of his leg and all of the points on his back. He looks beat up. Is this normal behavior? Maybe they are more aggressive than we thought.

Wow! I dont know what is up with this behavior?! Its quite bizarre! Im thinking of naming mine Taz because I feel like thats exactly how he acts when he sees a Nass snail. He just goes into this primal killing machine lol. I really dont get it.

Mine doesnt bother anyone or anything else really. He attacked a Xenia frag that slipped off its rock and he stalks hermit crabs and would follow them around and really hang out with a group of them and watch them eat. Lol. But i just got rid of most of my hermits. I kept the three scarlets who he never bothers with (too big). He is one whacked out Blenny.

My molly miller blenny devoured all of my stomatella when I first got her. I've seen her swim up and snatch them right off the glass. Now that I make sure to feed her every day (usually thawed Reef Frenzy), I've noticed a few stomatella popping back up. Make sure to feed your blennies regularly--target-feed them if the other fish in the tank are grabbing the food first. Hungry fish will go after almost anything small enough to eat.

Could be the star is already dying/degraded.

I also have molly millers that kill and eat snails. They knock turbo snails off the glass and kill them on the gravel. Mike

Funny you say that, I've had a red serpent in my tank for about a year now and awhile back noticed his central disc had turned white, wasn't until a few days ago I happened to notice my starry was biting at his disc and I keep catching him doing it whenever the star is out. I'm not moving the star to a different tank to see if he heals. Goofy blennies

I watched my Tailspot blenny for several weeks at the local fish store while my tank cycled.

He was in a tank with a female bird wrasse. Any time the wrasse would pass his hole in the rock, he would fearlessly charge the Bird Wrasse and nip at her fins.

He didnt seem to care about any other fish or inverts in the tank. The bird wrasse didnt seem to pay any attention to the attacks, but boy was the blenny fearless.

He was my first fish addition. I just couldnt pass on his personality.

Also there were two peppermint shrimp in the tank, and the wrasse had been there for over a month long with the two shrimp and the LFS owned said that he had seen no aggression from the wrasse on the shrimp in the time she had been there. No shrimp fatalities.

I guess every fish has their own personality and temperaments, and the general descriptions are just that.

I ended up rehoming my long-horned blenny. If I ever end up with a smaller fish-only I will def get one again but this guy tore everything up along with his Mimic Filefish friend! Both have new homes View attachment 280680

my lawnmower blenny picks snails up and drops them in my corals. It drives me crazy, haha
