blenny question

After bugging every LFS in central Ohio for close to two months I finally found a tail spot blenny. Let me tell you this dude is fantastic to watch. I have a question about feeding him I was planning on rubberbanding red marine algea and seaweed salad to a rock but he doesn't seem to interested. Granted he still maybe a little stressed out with the move but he is acting fine. What are you guys feeding your blennies? And should I just be persitant with the veggies I am using or move to something else, ? If so what should I try?

lol... good luck! I ended up getting him at Jacks (not my preferred place to shop, but they had him) in Canal Winchester. I called them about a month and a half ago and they said they get them in from time to time and to call in every Tues. cause thats when the get their saltwater orders in. If you don't mind paying the shipping or have other stuff to order BlueZoo Aquatics has them in stock. You will be happy with your choice he has been a great addition they are fun to watch and is now my favorite fish in the tank.

I have always had good luck adding a wee bit of garlic to the food of a new fish. Plus the natural anti-biotics can't hurt a stressed fish

I have a tailspot blenny coming in tomorrow. Really cool-looking little guy. Keep us posted on what you can get yours to eat.

I noticed him picking at the rock and glass all day yesterday so I think he is getting settled in. He pick a little at the veggie rock I threw in but not much.... I have my mandarine trained to eat frozen cyclops and he even went for that.

I've had a bi-color blenny for a few months. I could never get him to eat veggies. It eats mysis, cyclopeeze, and pellets. He seems to be ok. Mine also spends most of the day picking at the glass and rocks.

Good luck!

Saw mine dart out of his little hole in the rock and snatch a piece of hikari mysis right out of the water column this evening. Very entertaining, but tiny little fish. He is only about 3/4 of an inch long. Hopefully my big bicolor anthias won't mistake him for a large piece of plankton.

lol..... yes they are not very big but thankfully mine was on the larger end, he is probablly an inch and a half long. They use the word herbivore loosley on these guys mine eats every meaty morstel I throw in.

Heh, so much for the "herbivore" tag with mine, too. I've seen him nab frozen mysis, cyclops, and plankton so far. He also may be munching on sarcophyton polyps, but I can't tell for sure. (Although I'm not worried about him doing any damage - he's so small and that coral is so big.) What a cool little fish this guy is.

I haven't noticed any polyp nipping yet but the only one I am worried about is my Fire and Ice zoos that are on a frag plug everthing else is big enough he couldn't harm.

I wouldnt worrie to much about your blennies eating it takes most of them a month or more to get used to there surroundings and then there personallity comes out and then they will eat just about anything that isnt nailed down and are alot of funn to watch I currently have 3 and there all great they have been a must have in every tank I have ever had By far over the last 11 or 12 years the best ones have always been the Bicolors they have a personality that dosnt quit I have had one that ate out of my hand and always greeted me at the glass in the morning ..

I've had a bi color for close to a year now and he eats just about anything that the regular fish do. I feed my guys a frozen sheet of food made in a blender with everything in it. they all love it including the blenny.
