Hey,

I noticed white spots on my naso tang Yesterday, and saw my cleaner shrimp all over him last night thinking he would take care of it. When i got home this afternoon it seemed to be worse and he was rubbing his eye's with his fin's. My LFS sold me kent RXP. I never used this product and not really happy about using this in my display tank [ 1 clown misc snails/hermit's couple of soft coral's] I tryed to get him out for over an hour with no luck [ unless i rip apart 100 lbs of my live rock...which i don't want to do] the clown looks great and started the first dose tonight. Just need to know if I'm wasting my time and will not do the 2nd dose and do a water change or will this stuff work. also, will ick always be in the tank now if I can't cure him/die's. Thanks for any help

Your treatment most likely will work if you follow all the directions that were given to you. If your tang does die, ick will stay in the tank as long as there is another fish to be a host.

None of the so called reef safe treatments work consistently. Try and catch the fish at night. You can use a flashlight with red lense. Fish don't see red light well. You should be using a proven treatment. I suggest treating ALL the fish in quarantine with hyposalinity. It is best to have a cycled Qtank running at all times. People that quarantine fish before they put them in the display rarely have ich outbreaks in their reef.

Actually, I am more comfortable with 13 - 14ppt. The water quality is more difficult to maintain at 11ppt. Notice this is salinity not specific gravity. Cehck the pH daily and add a buffer as needed.

TerryB,
NO DEBATTING PLEASE
Just wanted to comment that eventhough reef-safe treatments are not proven to work by experience, science claims that reef-safe treatments will work on ick (but perhaps not 100% effectively)

Thats ALL

White Tiger,

Actually none of the so called reef safe treatments are scientifically proven to work. The treatments that are scientifically proven to work and reported in scientific journals are: copper, hyposalinity and the transfer method.

These reef safe medications will 'blanket' the problem at best..most of the time the ich shows up soon after you stop the medication [if it ever disapeared at all] Plus they reek havoc on your water quality. So it won't get rid of the ich, but it will kill off your biological filtration leaving you in quite a mess..Remove all your fish, its the best way

Thanks, so if and when i can get him out of the tank, should i still use the display waterfor quarntine tank/
