Also is it common for clownish to eat nori. My clown eats it when I feed it to my tangs. Also my fairy wrasse picks at it too.

So you think the stocking list for 265 is ok. With adding a naso tang. I will have 2 mp60 so yes lots of flow

The size of the fish has only a small amount of the determination of the size of the tank to best house them. My Two Barred Rabbitfish can grow to 11 inches or more but is more than happy in my 180 because his swimming pattern is very confined and deliberate. He spends most of his time in his special spot among the rock and mostly only gets out at feeding time.
Kole tangs tend to swim from one end to the other and graze on every rock as they pass by. My Caribbean Blue likes to dart from one end to the other, quickly. Different fish different behavior same species.
I posted and article from someone who understands the behavior of the different tangs, (yes, probably and expert and I would bet has kept tangs). You will ALWAYS find someone to confirm what you want to do, but that does not make it right. I did not offer my advice, but referred you to an article from someone who knows of what they are writing.
It ain't just the size but also the behavior of the fish that makes the difference. Do you want advice or confirmation?
Yes. Be conservative with your aquascape, be sure to have lots of open space and straight line runs in the front and back.
Two MP60s is good, that should provide enough flow considering you chose the right programming and link. I have as much flow as possible. Trust me, the fish love FLOW!
I think some advice is conservative, however if you maximize your display as I outlined it can be done. No matter how big your tank is sometimes things don't work out or fish just don't get along.

Like to think I do that. Also Makes lots of caves and hiding spots

So what you posted for was to get someone to agree with what you are doing. Screw the expert who write articles advising best practices for successful reef keeping. Yup you know better based on getting the advice you are soliciting.
Would you hire a cook who wrote a book based on his (her) successful pizzeria business and what the proportion of small to large purchases will be the norm.
I have been keeping salt water fish for 42 years. I felt qualified to answer. I am glad I could offer my experience and opinion to the op. Sorry if my view is somewhat different from the expert. But what do I know. Just 42 years.
You think you have a picture of your tank so I can see what you mean

You have a nice tank. Love the moorish idol. How long have you had him. Aren't they very hard to keep. Always wanted one of those but not reef safe and hard to keep

The article is certainly very conservative. There are factors that can make a large tank a poor environment as well as there are factors making a smaller tank more ideal. Your right to say behavior is a major factor. So designing a display to maximize its potential for the fish to take advantage of every inch can provide a better environment than a 8' tank.
I hate to see how we have such a ridged way of looking at these animals. It's so much more dynamic. Say that a 7' tank won't work and a 8' will because 12". That's just not fair to these beautiful life forms. There is a lot more to understand about keeping fish than just inches.
Aaron
The way I see it: there is no end to your logic. If a 8 works, why not a 7, its only 12 inches so if 7 is ok then 6 should be ok - it's only 12 inches..........
Think camel, back and straw. There is a point were it becomes bad (wrong), but that can not be pinpointed for each and every single fish. The guides conservative approach - you call it - just states this the minimum size to have to provide the best (but, yes, even that is not a guarantee) of success with the fish.
You found an expert fish keeper who can keep a moorish idol for 7 or 8 years. They must be an an expert with respect to a Naso tang. You received the answer you were looking for. I would encourage you to just go and get your Naso and close this thread.arron kept a moorish idol alive for 8 years, pretty sure that makes him an expert, even live Aquaria says that
I am not sure if you are referring to me as a mod, but I am not. I am merely a supporter of RC. However, as I said, just go get a naso. I am sure you can do just as well as someone with decades of experience.
