This weekend my foxface got spooked by something and he spiked and killed my naso tang. I borrowed a fish trap and quickly removed the foxface without any further spooking. The fox has a new home with a fellow reefer in my area with a big 200g tank. I don't like the idea of a venomous fish that can go Mortal Kombat on one of my fish. (I inherited the foxface when I purchased the tank for a fellow reefer several months ago.)
I still have a decent sized yellow tang. I am going to pick up a small blue tang at my LFS tomorrow. My yellow was quite aggressive to a CB butterfly (which I eventually had to take back to the store), but does not show much aggression to other fish. When I introduced the naso (RIP), the yellow picked on him for part of the afternoon, but then left him alone completely.
I've been told that since yellow and blues are different colors and shapes, the aggression should (not will, I get that all fish are different) be less of a problem. The blue I am bringing home is pretty small (not tiny by any means, but smaller than the yellow). The blue is a healthy specimen that I've seen eat well at the LFS.
Any thoughts? Have any of you had success introducing a smaller blue to a tank with a larger yellow?
