Blue Carpe and Maroon Clown Questions

I picked up my first anemone today, and had a question. The LFS told me that there was a chance for my maroon clown to host. Is there anything I could do to increase the chance? Currently my maroon sits in a small cave area and never leaves, even during feeding time he just sits there and swims out an inch to grab something and back in.

Also I was attempting to look at pictures online but I want to make sure that the anemone is doing good. It is opened most of the way and it looks like it attached on a rock about 30 inches below my lights. I can see the center and it looks like a rectum… (sorry that is what it looks like to me). It has a small red/purple circle and then I can see white about an inch or so down, it looks like there are muscles there and that is the inside of the part that is attached. Is that what it is supposed to look like? I never got a good look at the LFS since there was always some African Clown in it. (attached is a picture after the anemone was in the take for 4 hours and the lights have been off for the past hour).

Thank you for your help

Nice find! What lfs did you get it at? I might be taking a day trip to chicago sometime this summer to do an lfs tour of sorts...

Looks healthy to me. If it's already attached then all the better, especially if it likes it's spot and stays there. If the "rectum" you're talking about is the one in the pic, that is it's mouth. What kind of lighting do you have?

Thanks for the info, I knew it was the mouth but I was not sure if it was to open and was not properly brought into the tank, since I only spent like 45 mins getting it use to the water since my salinity was the same as the store. The store is Upscale Aquatics, 15412 S Route 59, Joliet, IL. I thought it was Plainfield but Google is telling me something different. They usually have great things there however they do sell out pretty quickly, I have learned to show up on Fridays when they get most of there fish and corals, but the items and leave them in the store for a couple of weeks to make sure they are not sick. Most of the fish they get are right off the reef so I like to play it safe.

The light is brand new just got it 2 weeks ago, it is a: Current USA 48 inch Outer Orbit 2x150w 10K HQI-MH w/ 4x54W T5 HO & 18 Lunar Lights. I think if I did it again I would search harder for the 2x250 MH one instead it is only a few $$ more.

It's kinda hard to tell from the pic, but the mouth looks fine from this distance. As long as it's not protruding you're all good.

I had a similar fixture (with one 150 hqi) and just swapped out the 150w for a 250w, and added an icecap ballast. That might be a reasonably priced option for you if you're looking for more light, but I'm not familiar with how much room that fixture has for cutting/modifying.

The only carpet I've ever had was a green one, so I'm not sure if the blues will lose their color of they don't get enough light. Maybe someone else can chime in on that point.
