Blue Chromis

Hi,

Im thinking of getting a 50 gallon Cube, and wanted a bright addition of blue.
Most damsels are too aggresive, so I was wondering if a single Chromis Cyaneus (carribean), could live in a 50 gallon. I dont want a group becuase of the small size of the tank, and becuase Ive heard they turn on each other.
Would 1 be healthy? Or can anybody point to a very blue fish that can fit in that tank? Ive look at others (sunrise dottyback, chalk bass, etc) but nothing is that blue

Thanks

The Azure damsels are one of the milder ones. I have 4 in my 180 gal and they don't bother anyone. I don't have clowns though which might be a concern.

I second the Azure damsels (Chrysiptera hemicyanea). I had 3 and they were just fine in my 100g with other fish like oscellaris clowns, Centropyge angels, high fin gobies etc. They'd have a little meeting in the mornings then two would pair off and the third would hang out at the other end of the tank.

The advantage is they stay small. The blue chromis on the other hand can get to be 4-5 inches long.

The Yellowtail Blue Damselfish "Chrysiptera parasema" Is a great fish too. Same temperament as the Azure damsel and half the cost. I have four in my 75 gallon with anthias, clowns, green chromis and some other fish. No aggression at all. I think they are better than chromis because they are just bold enough to defend themselves from my clowns rather than be bullied into hiding all the time.

I have a blue devil. It bothers no one, and is beautiful. I hate it when people look in my tank, and compliment me on the blue devil and not the Moorish Idol, the Achilles Tang, The Majestic Angel, etc....

Would an azure work in a 50 gallon tank? Some tankmates I was thinking of were a clownfish, royal gramma, neon goby, maybe a wrasse. Are these too peaceful?

I was going over a stocking list, and I was hoping to get some opinions.

1 Ocellaris Clown
1 Bangaii Cardinal
1 Royal Gramma
1 Bartletts Anthias
1 Yellow Tailed Damsel

~maybe 1 goby or blenny for a bottom dweller

I was planning on adding the 5-6 fish over 2 years, and am planning on a 20 gallon sump with BM NAC6 or R-O 100 for the skimmer

I think your missing out if you don't try to pair up the cardinals and the clowns.

2 clowns, 2 cardinals, a midas blenny or yellow watchman goby. The anthias is normally recommended in a group, but in a 50 you could only have one, I'd think about waiting on an anthias, your tank is smallish for one and the behavior is best in a group. The royal gramma is a solid choice, hardy, colorful, and at home in a 50 gallon tank. Many people regret putting a damsel in the tank, definitely add it last.

I've had many different Azure and yellowtail damsels over the years. Never regretted one of them. The plain old yellowtails tend to be the most tame. I have a pair in my 180 now. Don't get a regular blue, I've never met one that didn't turn into a terror.
