Let me explain the scenario. We have been having a MASSIVE heat wave in Los Angeles for the past couple of days. Temperatures in my area were in the 105-115 degrees F range. Thankfully my apartment has decent air conditioning so it was cool inside.
During the peak heat yesterday (about 113 degrees F) the power in the building went out, cutting the A/C and the pump & filter off. Room temperatures skyrocketed. The water temperatures in my young marine tank shot up by 10 degrees within an hour. It was peaking at about 86 degrees when the power finally came back on.
I have two Blue Damselfish in the tank. One of them didn't seem much affected but the other started acting very erratic. She keeps jittering, breathing really fast, swimming head-first into the live rock, coral and glass, going up and down the tank and wont eat the brine shrimp. Water temperatures are back to normal now but still she acts the same. I checked the nitrate and nitrite levels and both are zero. I'm worried that the sudden change in temperature may have really stressed her out.
This morning I put a tiny amount of brine shrimp in the tank. She ate just a little bit but far less than usual. That's a good sign of recovery I suppose. What else can I do to make sure she doesn't get worse or possibly even die?
