I have never seen blue Duncans before in the UK and a friend has them in his tank and I can't find out much info on them. Are they rare or does anyone else have them?
They're not uncommon at all, about 1 out of every 4 colonies that comes in from Australia are blue and they cost retailers the same amount. You can find them all over the country since most people just call them duncans no matter what the color, they're literally all over the place. I've got tons of different colony pictures on an external HD somewhere, here's one though.
Well i had never seen them here in the UK in the last three years I have been keeping marines and I go to alot of LFS so maybe most of the blue ones go to the states.
I've seen them from several different collectors, the thing is I've never held onto any long term so it's really likely they don't hold the blue color. I'd put money on "blue" ones being just regular green ones collected at a different depth that color back up to green once they spend a little time in captivity.
My guess is divers for the states dive deeper to get different corals, whereas the non-exporting divers collecting for the Aussie market stick to shallower areas that are full of green duncans.
