Blue Face Angel

Will a Blue Face Angel be safe in a reef tank? I have heard mix reviews and i'm not sure if i should put him in my reef tank or sell him back to the LFS.

Has anyone had success or failure with putting a Blue Face in a reef tank?

I'd put him in. I did. How bog is the tank and what kind of corals. So far I have a juvenile blueface and emperor. they pick polyps when smaller but the larger emperor has taken a liking to the homemade mixture of food over corals. Make sure you have a varied food with lots of different stuff and my bet is that they'll like that so much corals will seem more like broccolli.

:fish2:
i put mine in after 6 weeks of quarantining, and now he's as strong as ever. :fish2:
i feed him mysis. to answer your question, yes, it would be safe to put him in. yes mine picks on the corals occaisionally, but that is something i am willing to sacrifice for such a beautifull fish. the corals he does pick on the most, have to be the digitatas. he leaves my clam alone, and the rest of the corals are just picked on a bit.

get one thats eating prepared food agressivly and you should be fine if the angel hasn't figured the prepared food out he might nip your corals

Hi
Ijust got an adult blue face 3 1/2, ...
Do you mean that it has fully converted its colours to adult colours already at 3 1/2 inches only?

Well I,m not sure of conversion units but it`s fully converted and it`s 15 cm, i think i was completely wrong, thats about 7" lol, well it,s been in the reef for two weeks and it`s doing really good

he will nip at things, but each one will be different. mine enjoys nipping at the caps to let me know it's time to feed him. But he hasn't destroyed anything, yet. :D
I wouldn't trade him, I'll take corals out first.

Wow! That is a beauty. I can see why you would take that beautiful beast over the corals.

I am in that situation now. I just picked up a juvenile that is about 3-4" and it is just starting to change its colours now. I only picked it up yesterday and it's still pretty shy. It ate a little bit of mysis shrimp at the LFS, but that was in an open tank.

Is there any tips on how to feed it in a reef tank that is full of rocks and tangs that are bigger than him? Do they like Cyclop-eze?

Thanks.

Xenia - well, mine cleared a rock in about 4 hrs when he realized he liked the taste. That's the only thing he has consumed completely.

As far as feeding, for mine the cyclopeeze just wouldn't satisfy his appetite, you may try a baster and try to shoot small amounts of mysis behind the rock to where he is at, after giving the others some. The down side to that is having to much food laying behind the rocks. A good clean up crew will help with that.

Once he gets the taste, he be right in the middle waiting eagerly with your other fish.:D

Well I have some good news. While I was doing my daily (multiple) feedings of various flake food, the Blue Face took some in. He's still a little bit shy, but better than day 1. I'm getting some mysis shrimp ready for feeding now.

BTW, I know this is too early to tell, but how do you sex the Blue Face, so that I could start referring to him/her properly.:D

I think I would take the corals out too, since they are easier to catch.:D

BTW, thanks Virginiabreeze. I now have a new background on my desktop. I hope you don't mind.;)

Gorgeous fish VirginiaBreeze, it makes me wish I had been able to keep mine. But because I have a 110 it wasn't fair to keep him in their (he was fast approaching 7"). So now he is happily swimming in my friends 300.

Hello Mike, how is your juvenile BFA doing? Do you have any full body shots of him? How long is he now and how is the colour transition coming along. Mine, which I've only had for a few days now is starting to get that face like in your picture. Where did you pick up your BFA from?

Thanks,
Raymond

would a bfa eat gsp's? i have a patch about 30"x 20" in my 125 and would love to prune it a bit! my blue face has some soft coral in the tank it is in now and has never nipped any yet.

would a blue face angel be ok in a 125g? 72x18x22"?if it got soooooo big i couldn't keep it i would trade it, but could one live happily in a 125g?
