Ive seen people post different angel threads, butterfly threads and even a sea dragon thread! but i havent seen a blue face thread in a while! c'mon! how bout it! I need to know wether my juv. blue face angel will touch any of the corals in my tank. I have about 16 acro, a sebae anemone, a few torches, a leather, a brain, a finger, a gorgonian, and a clam. i also have a few shrooms and richordeas in the tank. Plus 3 tangs ( regal, achilles, yellow) and nemo. The blue face is in quarantine as of now and any advice is appreciated. I'll try to post some pics and update you on any changes as a result of your advice.

I think it's only a matter of time. Possibly now while he's young, but once he grows and matures, it's more than likely he will develop a taste for certain corals.

I would say these are most likely the first to go and letting him at them will only encourage him to taste more.

around what size do the blue face juvs change there colours? My emperor was a very large size when i got him (6 inches) , but he was still with juvenile colouration. My blue face is about 3-4 inches and he is already almost with the adult colouration. Answer wisely may the force be with us all. : strooper:
 
The blueface is one of the more reef safe large angels but LPS, clams, zoo's, and "fleshy" corals like open brains will be at risk. These fish along with the majestic start to turn into adult forms at a much smaller size than most other angels. I think they are pretty safe with leathers ans SPS but every fish is different and good luck with yours. Is he going in your 135?
 
should i keep the blue face, or the corals? I'm t o lazy to think of the pros and cons so you can do that yourself and tell them to me on your reply
 
will the blue face out grow my tank? seeing as i have an achilles and yt, a maroon clown,and i will be recieving a mi in march ;) , will the blue face be able to establish a "settlement" with enough space for it to feel comfortable?
 
A blueface will outgrow a 135 in time but they aren't particularly fast growers and if you get a small adult or juvenile he would be fine for quite a while but they do top out about 15 inches.
 
there is a person who frequents this website who has a ten year old blue face in a 300 that is 9" long. i don't know if that growth is the norm in captivity but i do know some Angels(including the blue face) secrete a hormone that inhibits growth. frequent water changes help them grow faster. i will look for that thread, it was about six months ago that i saw it.

also a correction, his blueface is 10" long after 10 years.
 
Mine does great. Hasn't touched a thing. He's still juv. About 4 - 4 1/2 inches. You never know what they will do when the get older. Hes a great fish.

He might mess with. He really got on my Yellow tangs for about 2 or 3 days. I thought he was going to kill them.

Is he out of QT and in the tank now? I'm considering getting one but it's already 6" long and turned fully adult. My juvie Emp only nips on the open brain in my tank and leaves the SPS and other LPS alone. I think the key is getting them really young when their dietary patterns haven't developed yet.
