BANDIT ANGEL

New member
I picked up a Pomacanthus navarchus from the LFS, it's quarantined and the LFS owner told me to put it in a acclimation box for a few weeks so other fish in the tank like the emperor angel won't attack it. I am wondering how can I maje the fish eat prepared food. Thanks.

they are good eaters...shouldn't be too tough to get it to eat...mine love mysis, brine, rod's, rogger's...great fish!
def. keep your eyes on the emp when putting the navarchus in...agree with acclimation box recommendation.....

He didn't feed it during QT??? How long was he in QT, minimum should be 3 weeks? (IMO) One of the main reasons to QT is to get the fish eating his regular diet without a lot of competition. It isn't uncommon for a fish to not eat from the time he's captured until he gets to the LFS, how long was he without food? It sounds like it wasn't in QT long enough. Even DD recommends QT for their fish. I've seen several posts from forum members who introduced parasites with a fish supposedly QTd by their LFS. Give him 3 weeks in QT and de-worm him with Prazi-Pro, these fish are very prone to flukes. This is one place I never bend---nobody QTs my fish but me. I buy all my fish online now, but I would never buy a fish from a LFS that I didn't see eat. I don't want to scare you; but I just have a bad feeling about this fish, especially if he doesn't eat soon.

I had trouble getting mine started, and it took a bit of everything to get him going. He'd pick and spit a lot of things, but eventually started eating like a horse.
I had the best luck with seaweed rubberbanded to a rock, and clams/mussels on the half shell. Leave it in the shell but rip it up a bit with a knife so it tears a bit easier. Sallys Angel/Butterfly cubes also worked pretty well. Now he eats everything.

Yeah, any fish that can resist a fresh, opened clam isn't human. They're my first option for fussy fish and a welcome treat anytime. Very under appreciated, IMO.

It takes time, Majestic Angels are somewhat shy in the beginning and then they get tougher as they get use to their environment. It took mines 2 days until it started eating. I started with mysis and then spectrum pellets.

it'll eat.

i would try to offer it every kind of food you have several times a day. it is easier to do if you have an acclimation box. i kept a blueface in there(QT + acclimation box) for 4weeks b/c my emperor juvie(same size 4") gave it a hard time at first. now the emperor juvie doesnt even look at the bf.

Thanks, I threw some flakes but it still wouldn't eat.

Start with the open mussel, and rubberband some nori to LR - near its favourite area in the tank. Flakes are the last thing I'd try....thats better once the fish is used to eating frozen food etc...

good luck!

Does the tank have any rocks or shelter? Majestics are really, really shy, especially at first, and unless it feels secure, it may not eat. Hope it begins eating soon, it is a beautiful fish.

I have never had a fish refuse Rod's food.

have you tried live blood worms?

Thanks, but these worms are hard to obtain in my area.
