Blue green mushrooms dying?

I bought a rock with a bunch of baby blue green mushrooms at the frag swap yesterday and all of them are turning purple, they were a really pretty teal like color before, is it because I have them too close or too far away from the light? Are they turning purple because they are dying? Anyone have a clue???

They were in the middle so I moved them down to about 4 inches off the bottom, not sure if they are high medium or low light mushrooms

Better off putting the mushrooms at the bottom and then working them to the desired location. What kind of lighting do you have? How deep is the tank?

Just my two cent worth let them be for a little while I had some mushrooms didnt open or show ther color for a week then one day shizam now they are huge and pretty give them some time somethings just need time to aclimate to there new habitat.

put them on the sand bed in directlight and give a few days to relax...you should be fine aslong as all your levels ... water and such are in order..

... they are mushrooms. As long as they are in the tank somewhere they will be fine. Seriously, you could grow mushrooms in a bucket with no heater, no filtration and only ambient light. They just won't die.

Be patient. A week or two and they will be used to your tank and then you'll be worrying about how to keep them off your other rocks.

This is not true .... I ordered an orange ricordia and the shipment got delayed one day and it turned white with tiny orange dots on it, the head fell off and it died. I am worried that these will die on me too

It is very hard to kill mushrooms... Blue/Green whatever. They will usually take over a tank and multiple very quickly. I have had them chewed up by Tunzes and only a little piece is left that grows into a new head.

An Orange Ricordia (Or bright colored Yuma or Florida Ric) even though is in the same class as Mushrooms (Corallimorphs) are not quite as forgiving and can actually melt away.

On your Ric I wonder if it was not actually dead and if you reattached it to some rubble rock it would have survived.

Also, blue mushrooms alot of times can take on a purple coloring. It could be a little bit of stress and should color back up under normal conditions. Mushrooms also sometimes for whatever reason simply change color in a different tank or environment. I bought a rock of teal blue stripped mushrooms from the swap a couple years ago and they are all over my tank some are completely blue some are the original teal color and some are purple in color now.

I would just start them at the bottom of the tank for the next day or two and slowly move them up to where you want them to be...keeping in mind they will spread and spread pretty quickly.

Good luck and happy reefing....

I have no idea the difference between a ric and a yuma, it was bright orange with a green center, I kept it in the tank hoping it would come back to life, the head of the mushroom fell off yesterday and fell down into a hole in a rock but is still in the tank, but I am still pretty sure it was dead. The blue green mushrooms I bought two were blue and green striped and four were blue green spotted, they are tiny mushrooms and as I am getting old my eyes aren't so great anymore so the stripes and spots kinda muted together and gave the mushrooms the most beautiful teal colored look that I had to have them even though the rock was more than I wanted to spend on any one frag. I am hoping that the color will come back if they survive, although the blue and purple color that they have turned in my tank is pretty they are just not stunning like they were when they were teal
