Blue Gudgeon Dartfish

Hi,

I ordered a blue gudgeon dartfish from you guys a few days ago. The fish looks good and is in a quarantine tank right now. My only problem is that all he does is hide under a rock. I know this is a shy species, but will it ever become more comfortable in a tank? I'm planning on adding it to my 125 gallon reef tank and want to peace of mind that I'll actually see it again. Would adding a group or pair of them be a better choice? And if so, how do you tell if one is a male or a female?

I also wanted to add that this was the first time I've ordered from you guys and everything arrived in great condition. I'm very pleased and will definitely be ordering from LA again!

Thank you for your post and recent order with Drs. Foster and Smith’s Live Aquaria. We are happy to hear that you are enjoying your Blue Gudgeon Dartfish. He will make a great addition to your 125 gallon tank.

It is very normal for him to hide behind rocks and not come out into the open for a period of time. Once he has adapted to your tank he may swim around more. He is a very peaceful fish and may not come into the open for days at time.

We would not recommend adding any additional Blue Gudgeon Dartfish to your aquarium, as they can become very territorial towards others of their species.

We appreciate your compliments, and are ecstatic that your first live order with us came to you in great condition. And please keep us up to date on the health of your Blue Gudgeon Dartfish.

Thanks! That makes me feel better. There is a bullet goby in the 125 gallon already. Do you think there will be any problems between the two?

Thank you for your reply. The Blue Gudgeon Dartfish and the Bullet Goby should do just fine in your tank. They are both peaceful specimens and are compatible together.
