Blue Hippo looks horrible. Skin peeling

Posting for a friend*

Fish was being treated for ich in a 55 gallon tank and is done with treatment waiting for his tank to be set back up. He is still eating very well but is swimming on surface and acting weird. I noticed his skin looked as it had bubbles and was peeling so I pulled him for a picture. He is the only fish in the tank that looks like way. Any ideas??

Most likely brook. There are stickies at the top of the forum. Formalin dips are the standard treatment.

If it is Brook do I just do dips on the tang if he is the only one showing symptoms or should each fish in QT go through dips as well?

Depends on what kind of fish were in the tank with the tang. If there are any dragonets I would not do formalin dips. I would put it in a separate QT and observe. But most other fish you could do preemptive shortened or low dose dips.

All fish in that tank are susceptible to brook (or uronema)

Are you talking about those "scars" toward the front of your hippo? I think that is from itch. It will be there forever. My hippo got sick and those marks are still there.

I am not asking any longer what Brook is I am asking how to treat. It is not ich and it is not from ich. He shows every symptom of brook I just have never had to deal with it

This is like I said a friends fish but he has been in my care along with others while he moves. The tang is in QT with a Purple Tang, Naso, Dottyback, Goby, and a Zebra Moray. He is the only fish showing signs and I have been giving him freshwater dips for now and he looks much better. Further treatment will come tomorrow when I am off as well as freshwater baths for all as well as a complete QT tank breakdown and clean.
