i have heard anywere from 55g to 100g for the minimum tank size for a blue hippo tang

any suggestions on the min size.

I would say at minimum a 6 foot 125 gallon would be minimum... they are big waste generators and really love to swim

55 gallon but most people are gonna say bigger i knew some one who had 2 blue hippos in a 35 gallon

Just because thay have them dont mean they should! II had 1 in a 46 bow but it was the size of a half dollar when i got it and had to break down the whole tank when it was time to give him more room (8mths)! If you get them sm it would be "ok" for a short time, but to buy a big 1 then 6 foot tank is a must!

Those guys grow fast. I bought mine when he was the size of a dime. He's now about 4-5" long in less than a year. I agree with the 6 foot long tank. I have a 7 foot long tank and mine doesn't use the whole thing yet but he will some day if he breaks free of the 3 other tangs in my tank.

in my opinion, one should look first to the max size of the fish. I always use the 2x3 rule and square inchs per gallon. Basically the min size of a tank should be max size of the fish x 2 for width, and x 3 for length and 1 gallon per sq. inch of fish in the tank. In the case of a hippo tang, 12" long so a 2' deep, and 3' long would be a bear minimum and assuming 5" tall and 12" long 50 gallon min. assuming no other fish.
