Hi-\

I bought a blue hippotang about 4 in from the LFS, the problem that Im having is that it went into hidding for the first 3 days and now that s its come out it will not eat...I have had it for a week and right now its not looking good at all.....what can i do

When you feed the tank, step back a good distance so he can't see you outside of the tank ;) Also some good frozen foods like mysis can be pretty enticing.

This is what I had to do with my Yellow Tang for about 4 months. And now, 3 months later, he's gotten semi-used to me. ;)

I agree with the nori to a rock. This is what sparked my YT to begin feeding.

Blue hippo tangs generally like some meat in their diet, so definitely try the mysis shrimp. Soak it in garlic first.

i agree with bill i have had my hippo for 2 yrs and he is still shy. anytime i get a new fish i throw a variety of foods at them just to make sure i get them eating well right away. mix it up mysids, pellets, nori, krill, as much variety as you can, several small feedings throughout the day.

Like reefer addiction said several small feedings a day to get him use to the program. Also the seaweed to a clip or rock and stay away from the tank for a bit. Hippos are hard to get to eat at first but once he starts look out. He'll eat anything you put in the tank.
