Blue hippo

NOpe... Although it is shy at first, not 2 weeks w out seeing it. How big was it, what tank size do you have and what other fish do you have (sizes too)?

He was descent size..2-3 inches. 75 gal with plenty of rock. I do have 2 inch yellow tang. 3,inch rabbit and 3 inch foxface

You should hear it sooner or later: You are putting a lot of fish into your tank that need much more room. Consider the adult size. I'd invest in a QT and do some real research before buying any more fish. Also, if the tang is dead, it can cause a deadly ammonia spike in a newer tank. You need to find it. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/aquarium-fish-supplies.cfm?c=15

Thats 4 fish that get large in a tank that really isnt that large, limit it to 1 of those larger fish to that tank. And definitely not the pacific blue but preferably the rabbit or fox that arent really "Swimmers" and are more cruisers.

I know I'm pushing limits with fish... Plan to get a larger one next year so I should be OK for now.... My LOcal store said they have had hippo hide for 2 months.. Then all of sudden showed up... In fact I'm testing daily because I figured parameters would spike if he died...

A Blue Hippo is a far too active fish to stay hidden for two weeks. My money is on that it is dead. If it is that small and you have a decent CUC they probably finished him up the first night.

And if its hiding in a 75, you prob still see him. Hiding in a LFS big tank w corals might be easy, but I dont know what they had him in. I doubt yours is alive, but who knows, maybe... just dont hold your breathe. P.S.- Small blues are kinda delicate.

You aren't pushing limits, you are far surpassing them. Fish, like your YT will become much more aggressive, much quicker with a cramped tank like this. I would wait until you upgrade until you get a bigger tank and a QT. If your LFS knows your stocking level and continues to sell you fish, I'd take my business elsewhere.

My main goal in this hobby and (IME) the goal of almost everyone at RC is to see fish thrive, not just stay alive for a while. FWIW: I would expect the YT to go after the rabbitfish or foxface at any time. Even a small YT can be deadly; they hate cramped tanks and other fish of similar appearance. This is one reason that any reputable source you can find will tell you the same thing. Oh yeah, regal (hippo) tangs are very ich prone. If you aren't using a QT regimen, your whole tank may be at fish. This fish could have easily died from a contagious and deadly parasite.
