Blue Hornet / Blue Steel / AOI - How do you tell them apart?

Picked these up today. What are these - Blue Hornets / Blue Steel / AOI? How do you tell them apart?

To me their all the same... but that's just me.

and even if they werent exactly the same(although i think they are), none of them are unique enough from the others to warrant a new name. So all of the names are synonymous with each other in concern to using the names for ID purposes.

Lots of polyps with multiple names, much less obviouis than these due to morphed appearances at the time of any given pic

well...first off, what I said were the same polyps are the two that 650 linked, second off, I wouldnt say for ssure those polyps you have pictured there are different either. All of the fundamentals I see there are easily environmentally morphed. the darker and better color and more defined lines go hand in hand typically,(which is all I can see as far as difference between the two) and unless you have had both polyps pictured there for a signifigant amount of time, and can from experience say for sure they are different, I would say they most likely are the same, and if not, neither one is so unique from the other that it deserves a new and unique name.

to be sure, they very well could be different and you may be experienced enough to know for sure they are. I am surely not saying otherwise as I dont know you. Im just saying what I see

Blue Hornets have an alternating skirt like Purple Hornets. I think Blue and Purple Hornets are more likely to be the same than Blue Steel and Blue Hornets. Every time I look at Blue Steel I can see very little resemblance to Blue Hornets other than they have similar (but not the same) colors. JMHO

never seen a blue hornet with the alternating skirt. seen some purple hornets that look to have become a shade closer to blue from enviroment factors, but these are not what I see called a blue hornet.

AOI is called a blue hornet only to capitalize on a name, there are almost no similarities besides the green ring.

Princer, nice pics and those polyps look great. Keep them healthy propagate them so that we can have AQUACULTURED sets of this morph to lessen the chances of melting from wild colonies.

I could care less about there name, I just hope they don't melt. I had these for 3 weeks now finger crossed.

Hopefully we can have some tank raised ones soon

Yep.... keeping my fingers crossed on these not melting as well. Definitely a very nice zoa to get thriving and spread around the hobby.

Reading about this name game....When we started getting these "Blue Steel"....they were actually all blue...like a powder blue "Steel". Two years later, just about 6 months ago or less, we started, or I basically started to import them again after a long hiatus due to high mortalities and them being a real pain in the arse! It was all because my supplier was not handling them properly. When the supplier finally did what I had told him to do, he called me up and we tried again with great success...night and day, and we started getting the green centered blue's we are now calling "Blue Steel - Super". I am not sure our name is the best, but it's already done and I am not sure we can change it now. Not sure how made up the name "hornets", but I like it

I knew someone was going to ask that as I typed....but I am hesitant to say because it's kinda trade secret and the competition is surely reading Nothing that we need to do on our side...just some collection tips that needed to be done. I love the collection and handling side of things...it's just incredible to spend a full week's schedule chasing down fish and coral! Wish I could do that more
