Blue Jaw bit me.

Okay, I know this is not an MD forum, but just wondered if anyone had any knowledge.

Last week I came down with what I thought was a flu bug (Tuesday) by Thursday I was feeling good, no issues.

I was in the tank fragging a coral, I pulled the coral out and was working on it just above the surface, my finger dangled into the water and my blue jaw thought it was food, he bit on pretty hard and broke the skin, drawing blood.

It gave me quite a shock, but didn't think anything of it, on Saturday I came down with cold chills, a fever and headaches much similar to what I experienced earlier in the week, this time though it's not really gone away. My finger is fully healed and no pain, so I'm sure it's just a coincidence, and maybe I came back down with the same flu, or was never really over it, but want to rule some kind ailment from the fish bite as a possible cause.

Do blue jaws have something in there bite that could cause an issue in humans?

P.S. Sorry for the ridiculous thread, my wife is making me post this, as she is playing investigator.

I'm no expert in jawfish. Be aware though that our tanks have somewhat unique bacteria and if you end up on antibiotics (after see a doctor) make sure the MD is aware this occurred in a saltwater fish tank and not to treat you for just typical strep/staph infections. You may need coverage for things like vibrio etc.

my back-alley medical opinion....

Edit: Meant Blue Jaw Trigger btw*

Thanks, if I don't feel right tomorrow, I'll be going to the doctor and make sure I tell them what happened in case it's related

Pinktail trigger has nailed me a few times, no side effects. I did tell him its not a good idea to bite the hand that feeds you!
As a precaution, there are all kinds of bacteria in the water so if you`re not feeling well it wouldn`t hurt to check it out..

Go get your self checked out . As far as the bite goes . I have had a Picasso trigger get me pretty good. I just poured peroxide on it right after .

Thanks for the replies, the corals were just SPS, I actually spoke to a few coworkers, and they had similar symptoms, so must be a bug going around.

I no longer think that the blue jaw bite is related.

Thanks

I wear gloves now when handling sps. I got a little queasy before after fragging some and handling them. It was weird. But since wearing gloves I'm good.
