got him 7 days ago. hasnt seen him come out or eat. no big fish that could have harrassed him except maybe the male lyretail anthias. he is always wedged betweent he rockwork. he looks healthy and all. what gives?

Bluejaws are known to be pretty shy when first introduced. One thing you might try if you are not already doing it is when feeding don't stand in front of the aquarium, feed and get away from the aquarium so he wont see you but you can still see the aquarium. That will give you a chance to see if he is coming out to eat. Is he wedged in the same spot all the time or has he moved to different locations within the rockwork?

he moves to different spot within the rockwork. i had fish in the past that didnt eat for the first two weeks but never hidden like this guy. fish that didnt come out in the past would die within a week or two from my personal experience. i would hate to see him just wither away.

Have you checked to see if he comes out before or after the actual tank lights are on?

New BJ triggers seem to hide all the time. He'll probably sneak out for food and become a little more visible. Don't expect him to ever become an up-front fish. They are, perhaps, the shyest & wussiest trigger available.

even when the lights r off, he doesnt come out. i dont think he is normal. had i known they were such shy fish, i would have opted for a different reef safe trigger.

I guess I got lucky as mine are pretty much out all the time even when my son and I are standing in front watching them and my 7month old trying to touch them through the glass.

as mentioned in other thread....lights off and clam on half shell or some fresh shrimp...and walk away from the tank...watch from a distance...this is normal behavior for this trigger....
