Blue jaw trigger male or female?

When I bought him, he was sold to me as a male.

However, I've never seen the blue color on his jaw? Does this mean he's a female? Or is it just not coloring up?

I'm wanting to add another BJT, but don't know whether to add a male or a female now?

Any help?

Bad pic. Are his upper and lower fins outlined in yellow? If not, its a female. Whether its a male or female you can add a female bjt if your tank is big enough. Use an acclimation box.

Yeah sorry, will try get a better pic, when I take pictures on my phone everything looks blue.

Mmm, the upper and lower fins are not outlined, but the tail rear edge is outlined.

So if I add a female, and this one turns out to be a female, will one change into a male?

Here's another pic, still not great. But you can see, no outline on upper and lower fins, and you can see the outline on his tail I was talking about.

Will it change? I don't know. I had a male that turned female. Added a female and now they are both females. No signs of either changing. They get along great though after the first day.

I had the same issue as RJT. My male turned female. When I got him he had the blue jaw and yellow fins. After about 2 months all his coloring muted and then finally went away. I think you have a female.

if the fish is mostly a light grey it is probably a female. they are mostly uniform light grey, sometimes light bluish or pinkish to them. the male will have the bright blue throat, as they name suggests. sometimes their coloration on the fins may not be as prominent if they have changed/are changing, but if you have two in there id keep a close eye on them. i worked in an LFS for a while and whenever we had more than one together they just tried to eat each other. especially one time we tried to pair two off, the female and male were locking fins and dancing in the water column in a spiral fashion. was beautiful until she started ripping flesh off of him and we had to move him.
