if the fish is mostly a light grey it is probably a female. they are mostly uniform light grey, sometimes light bluish or pinkish to them. the male will have the bright blue throat, as they name suggests. sometimes their coloration on the fins may not be as prominent if they have changed/are changing, but if you have two in there id keep a close eye on them. i worked in an LFS for a while and whenever we had more than one together they just tried to eat each other. especially one time we tried to pair two off, the female and male were locking fins and dancing in the water column in a spiral fashion. was beautiful until she started ripping flesh off of him and we had to move him.
