Blue jaw trigger-reef safe?

I have heard that these are reef safe? Triggers have always scared me but I am considering getting a pair? Need advice, whats your thoughts or experience?

Ive had a pair in the past, didnt touch coral but any shrimp are at risk of being fish food. They didnt go after my snails/hermits though

Yes they are Reef Safe in regards to corals. Ive had Blue Jaws and now have a sargassum which are in the same family. When they get bigger they might start to have an appetite for ornamental shrimps or crabs but not always. In regards to fish, they will be fine. Mine were usually really shy.

I have a male in my tank with several tangs, including a yellow and Desjardins. No problems with any of them. Doesn't bother my cleaner or CB shrimp but I cannot keep any peppermint shrimp.

I had one in my tank for 4-5 years before the crash. He lived with cleaner shrimp for a while but then they disappear. Don't know it was the trigger, but he was always the suspect. Now no trigger and shrimp is huge.

marke...i had a blue throat trigger on my tank and it never messed with anything...the only problem was that my blue tang made him his *****! lol

Hey Mr Mark.

I have a male on my tank. leaves 5 peppermints alone as well as 2 indo skunks and 1 carribean skunk cleaner.

I have a sargassum like Johns. Messes with nothing. Yellow tank and Desjarni (Red Sea Sailfin) all get along.

Not many peaceful reef safe triggers, but the Blue Jaws are one of the few :) Along with other members of the genus Xanthichthy.
