Blue Jaw Trigger sex change?

I have had a larger male and smaller female for about 4 months now. Today I noticed my female has changed coloration from plain grayish color to the yellow fin and blue jaw pattern of the male. Do I have two males now?

Sure looks like a pair of males. How big is your tank? How do they get along? Did you get them at the same time/place?

I have a 150 tall. They get along just fine never get aggressive and usually are hanging out together. I bought the female first and the male about a week later. I appreciate the response.

I live in West KY and we have no LFS. I drove up there to Corals and More to buy my 180, stand and a 125 for a friend of mine. He is great to deal with and has a nice store. The prices were good also.

FYI I see on his FB page he has a big giveaway and sale going tomorrow.

It is a 3.5 hour drive for me or I would be in there all the time.

Sad to report that one of them died. I have no clue why but the smaller trigger that changed to male took over. I never saw them fight myself but the larger one started hiding and I found him tonight lifeless.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

I had a somewhat similar experience. I had a beautiful pair that were always out and about. The male started the mating ritual with the female, and they would dance just about every day, especially at night before the lights went out (yes, i'm sure it was the mating dance, and not aggression). The female was into it initially, then she went into hiding after a couple of weeks. She was found dead wedged into a rock a few weeks later. Ironically, the male jumped out of the tank and died about 2 months later.

Very underrated fish IMO...
