Blue light...A potential cure for CYANOBACTERIA

Anyone else notice this?

On several separate occasions now, I've noticed that when I have had a bloom of nasty brown cyanobacteria, if I leave only my (T5 bulbs) Blue+ and Super Actinic running all day, there's no sign of the cyanobacteria before the day's over.

This seems entirely unconnected to my erratic feeding schedule etc. Typically, if I let the direct sunlight pour into the tank, it is the cause (or final straw to produce) for cyanobacteria in the areas it hits. But then when I block the sun and have only the aforementioned bulbs running, it the cyanobacteria virtually dissolves...

Does it ever come back when you return to your normal lighting schedule? I've heard cyano won't necessarily disappear but will turn either white or clear in the absence of light, and will return to its original color when the lights come back on.

I've noticed this too, it comes right back as soon the daylight returns. I imagine you'd get the same results if you just turned all the lights off.

I am doing this as well. And yes, when the other lights come on, it is back again, however; I just put in 100 more blue legs and 60 more snails to give them a chance to attack this under the actinics. This way I can still enjoy the tank and keep an eye on their progress.

actinic isn't curing anything it's just not the spectrum of light cyano prefers, as soon as you turn your other lights back on it will start growing. you have a nutrient problem
