Is it just me or does the big guy have a buldge on his side? I think Recty and a few others had problems with Chaetodontoplus with symptoms like that. Recty's was a scribbled FWIW.
It appears as a bulge due to a sunken stomach. I received this 7" BL back on 5/14 and at the time I was told he was skinny. For sure he was a lot more skinny than I imagined. He was so weak the first night and he got his tail chew up when he wandered into the Crosshatch trigger's cave that night and didn't put up much of a fight. He took a very long time to eat prepared food and the tank went through velvet certainly didn't help. For the first 2.5-3 months or so he was only eating live clams on half-shell and nothing else but he will eat pretty much all the various frozen now. He's pretty active and recently started eating pellets so hopefully he will gain some weight back soon. If he can get through another month with me (6 months) I would say I've a very good chance of having him with me for a long time. Personally I don't consider any fish to be safe till they pass the 6 months mark. Lately is scary hearing Goldflakes dying after a year or two in the tank.

tcm: you hit it right on the button. Since your post the BL gradually ate less and less and within 2 weeks it stopped eating. Once it stopped eating the bulge appeared even bigger and it became reclusive. One night when i got home he was leaning half way against the rock and glass and I knew at that moment it was his time.
It was very difficult for me watching his passing and as there was so much hope for the trio. Since his passing the med BL hasn't chased the small BL much and I guess 'he' knows it's his time to lead. As stated in my previous post the 6 month rule still holds true.
Yes, I remember Recty saying that. I didn't want to cut it open but did feel the bulge to be pretty solid. It was one of the fish I packed to ship out couple of days ago to Luis for his DNA work but I was rushing out of the house to catch a train and I left it behind.
I just wanted to update the 2 that's still with me. The larger one was was from March 2009 (4.75" then and 6.5"+ now) and the smaller one was from September 2009 (3.5" then and 4.5"+ now). The smaller one didn't grow much and the male always seem to chase her around and this may have suppressed her growth.
This morning he was swimming at a pretty fast pace and started chasing other angels around then all of a sudden I saw him chasing the female but the female wasn't running from him and kind of submitting. Then...
These were taken this morning between 9:30-10am. Sorry for the light reflection due to window right next to the tank even wih the curtain.
