blue line angel primer

Thanks. I got a 3" Meridithi last May then another 3" last October. The first one is about the size of the Bandit in the picture which is about 5 1/4" and the smaller one is about 4-4 1/2". I guess the larger one is not quite an adult yet so it's still trying to establish it's dominance.

I've a 3" Bandit in another tank and can't wait to pair her up with the male by year end when she gets bigger. I have two Regals in QT and the bigger one still like to chase the smaller one. So far its been just a quick dash and no harm. I may look to getting another Scribbled to pair with the one I have after the tank upgrade toward year end at this point.

Pair of bluelines, pair of meridithi's, pair of regals, pair of bandits, soon to be pair of scribbleds, geez! Your fish list is impressive to say the least! What else do you have? Still have an emperor and other fish in the 125g? When is the big tank getting built?

Thanks DPS. No, I'd to give away the Emp and PBT because they get too aggressive with new comer and I wanted to go in a different direction. The PBT aggression usually will subside after 3-4 days but the fish I was adding may not be able to take that much stress and I didn't want to take that risk. The upgrade was originally plan for summer but the basement project is taking much longer. At this point it looks more like toward year end.

The only other potential pair I've is Potters, one large male and a small female in QT which I got the same time as the Regals. Both hang out in different caves and the male will chase the female once in while. Only time will tell if both Regals and Potters will form true pair.

Hey guys, how about some pictures of your QT set-ups and such. Ya' know a picture is worth a thousand words.

I am always interested in other peoples QT's, especially people that are very good with angelfish.

sad to say i didn't qt the angel. i just had a big aquarium for him to swim freely with some LR and i didn't have the light on for one week. Also i provided it with a lot of flow.

I've had one for 3 years and it's one of my favourite fish. I' suprised we don't see more of them in the hobby. They are native to Japan yet I'll only see them on offer here very occasionally. Mine is very hardy and eats anything. I had a juvi Emperor that went through the whole colour change and then died of a swim bladder infection but never had an issue with the BL.

I QT'd mine with hypo, no Prazi at that time. Just Formalin I think.

I just finished a huge makeover of my tank which involved removing all the rock one side at a time and I'm pretty sure the BL had a rock land on his head as it had a large cut or some kind scarring but it healed within days. I would love to have a pair but I think it's a bit late now. But from now I'll always add fish in pairs.

any updates on your Blueline angel?

Oh yea the fish is doing great! Funny thing is He is not eating any frozen. Just nori and these hard flakes I have that I don't know the name of. The bl is my favorite so far. Love how his top and bottom fin changes into a super dark color when it swims.

I've both of mine for 5 months now and they get along pretty. The bigger one still like to show who's the boss every now and then. The smaller BL eats everything from freeze dried, pellets to frozen but the bigger one doesn't show much interest in prepared food unless when hungry and kinda waits for me to feed live clam. Anyone looking to add one I highly suggest getting one under 5".

Couple of pictures from last night and please excuse the clarity as I need to do some glass cleaning this weekend.

The 7" BL is finally eating pellets this week--ON Formula 2 medium where the 5" BL will eat both NLS and ON. So happy because the big boy is a bit on the skinny side.

I really love all of your BLs.
If you had a choice between a BL and a Scribble, which would you say is hardiest and a better choice?
I'd like to put one in my 120g, w/ lots of flow, SPS dominant, a clam, frogspwn, and a plate coral.
Other tankmates are:
2 tomatos
foxface
potter's
2 anthias
2 chromis
i would QT it.
Thanks guys

This is just my personal experience and others will most likely vary. I've 2 BLs and 2 Meredith in the same tank and the BLs will only occasionally chase the smaller Meredithi (no nips just a quick dash) and doesn't bother any of the other fishes including smaller angels. This is expected as they're in the same Chaetodontoplus group. I've a Scribbled in another tank and he/she is the boss and will chase any fish around when they get too close.

Given your tank size I would recommend going with the BL as the smaller and less aggressive of the two. For me it seems to be harder to find a healthy BL than a Scribbled.

Good to hear he has finally given in to pellets! Nothing like pellets to "bulk" fish up!

Flameangel, great shots and some nice healthy looking fish. What is the the orange fish under the bandit and blueline in that pic? Thanks, T

Thanks Tim. It's a female Squarespot Anthias that's been in the tank the longest. I didn't want to take the tank apart to pull her out but when I upgrade she will be in another tank because she's been picking on the smaller wrasse and hogfish. She was small when I got her and now she's almost the same size as my Watanabe.

Trio

Trio

I got a 4" BL back on August 18th unfortunately it wasn't too healthy and died on 9/1 so I thought the idea of forming a trio this died with it because I was under the impression BL season was over. However I saw BZ had one that was listed at 2-2.5" I was very excited and bought it even though the 3.5" one in the WYSIWYG section was much cheaper. I was a bit disappointed when I got it it was more on the 3.5" side but it was definitely more healthy looking then the previous one. She spent the past month in QT and she didn't do too well on the second round of Prazi so I had to cut it to a total of 9 days for both rounds. She developed fin rot along the way and was treated with Maracyn and took till the 4th days before I noticed improvement.

It took her over two weeks to eat and was only eating flakes for one week and now she will also eat pellets. Still refuse to eat frozen so hopefully she follow the others in the DT on eating prepared food.

I introduced her to the DT yesterday morning along with a CB and so far the other two BLs are curious and swims nearby but I didn't see any aggressive move toward the new BL. If everything goes well I'll release her tomorrow night.

Here are some pictures

Edit--sorry I was having problem with the pictures but I think it's all resolved now.

Looks good Kevin! I hope it works out for you.

I found that the easiest way to get the BL to eat anything is to finely grate frozen clams.

my 3" is currently eating anything I put in the tank with him. It also helps that the wrought irons he is with are absolute pigs.
