Yesterday i noticed my blue line trigger had like a film over his skin. he was still eating. This morning he was dead. My nitrites 0, nitrates 40, ammonia 0. Last week a newly introduced harlequin sweetlips died after about a week, he wasn't eating from the time i brought him home from the lfs. I don't know what was wrong with the trigger, CAN ANYONE ADVISE PLEASE.. THANKS IN ADVANCE

First off, I'm hoping you were planning on upgrading the tank in the future. Harlequin Sweetlips reach 28" max. and Blue Line Triggers reach 21" max. I now see what all you have in that tank. WOW! What type of filtration do you have? Not sure what your Trigger died from. Bacterial infection? Stress from being overcrowded and maybe bullied by the Clown Trigger? Who knows? It doesn't really matter. You need to take all of those fish back to the store and research more. Ask questions before making buys. People here will be more than happy to help.

Greg, the blue line trigger was the only fish in the tank. the clown trigger and harlequin tusk passed away 2 months ago. Yes, i'm ugrading to a 110 next week. i would be that stupid to have all those fish in one tank.. i learned that lesson my first time around a year ago. much smarter now.. right now i have a skimmer about 40 lbs of LR. I was running an aqua clear 100 on the back but was advised that it wasn't necessary.

It's good that you learned your lesson. Those fish aren't cheap! Maybe you should revise your signature that says you have those four fish in the 46 gallon. Also, maybe you should try your hand at the 46 gallon with some smaller fish? Your going to need a better protein skimmer and more live rock for the 110. Why spend more money on a 110 when you haven't been successful with the 46? By the way, what brand skimmer is on your 46?

As for the Blue Line death, how long have you had it? what is your salinty? what is your temp? what is your pH?
For the Blue Line

Juvi Bluelines are hard to keep, if your gunna get a Blueline get one thats about the size of your hand...youll have better luck with him then, same goes for Clowns. Don't feel bad about it, its a common thing with those types of trigs.

honestly i would stick with the 46 for a while. let it run fallow for a month or so to make sure that any funk that was in there is gone. If you want aggresive fish a hawkfish or a dwarf lion would do great in the 46. If you want something else a pair of clowns and a pygmy angel would also be happy in the 46. I would definitely get some experience keeping fish with the tank that you have for a period of time(year minimum) before you upgrade to the 110.
