Linkias like algae sheets. what you can do is thoroughly saturate it with water, place the star on top of it on the sand or on a flat rock. he will eat what he wants and move on. you can also try pieces of raw shrimp.
Not sure where you heard about the algae sheets but that is simply not true. The exact diet of linckias is unknown. It is believed that they eat microfauna off of the live rock which is why mature large tanks with ample live rock are needed for long term survival.. granted they do not die from acclimation shock within the first month.
my system has been set up for about 3 and 1/2 years. it is a 180 gal with about 140 lbs of live rock. i have softies lps and sps but there is still plenty of open spaces on the rock for him to graze, so hopefully he will have enough. i took my time acclimating him. i've only had it for 2 weeks. it is about 6 to 6 1/2 inches.
I kept one in my old 90G tank for several years with no problems. I did not do any supplemental feeding. The only reason I don't have him anymore is because I moved and he did not make it through the move.
shookbrad, how often did yours come out to where you could see it? My friend has one and everytime i go over there i could see atleast a leg or something. mine pops out for a min then retreats for days.
He was always out. My friend's is always hidden though. I currently have an orange Linka that is always out. I plan on getting another Blue one when finances recover. MY MH Ballast went out on Sunday so there goes $175 that was for fish.
yeah those unexpected expenses suck. in the last month i had to get all new t5's and hqi's. my corals started to look terrible and i lost a few of them. but new bulbs now and happy corals!
