blue macroalgae? anyone know what this is?

My LFS has a fist sized rock with this stuff on it. I have been in this hobby for almost 20 years and have never seen anything like it. It is kinda sponge like and grows close to the rock with big lobes. And it is BLUE, really blue, more blue than that pic, like a blue damsel blue. I don't want to add something invasive but this stuff looks awesome.

not sure of the name, but be careful if you get any...local reefer in my area bought some and his turbo snails decided to eat it.

Does not look like algae to me. Strange... seller markets it as "Metallic Blue Macroalgae Live Coral." So what is he/she selling, an algae or a coral ?

It is in fact a blue macro algae. I have a large piece of it and it grows like crazy. I had a turbo snail until he started eating it and I got rid of the turbo. I have heard however that it is almost impossible to get off a rock, but I guess you could just get a turbo.

It was sold to me as a sponge but I now know that it's a macro.

I believe it's a blue photosynthetic sponge. (collospongia sp.) I recently got a piece from a lfs. You can find them in various shades from greenish to vivid blue.
