I got a frag of 3 polyps of blue magicians about 2 months ago I had the plug on the sand bed and the looked fine. I tried moving them about 8 inches off the bottom and they started to lose color around edges altho there is a baby growing now. I put them back down for about a week already but it don't seem to be getting the color back. Any one can tell me best placement and flow/ lighting for blue magicians? I run 2 250 w MH 14k and 2 65 w true actinics. run the MH seperately for 5.5 hrs each and together for 1 hrs with the actinics on 13 hrs. 135 w of PC Actinics come on 6:30 am, 1 250 W MH 14K comes on 8 am. 2nd 250 w MH 14k comes on 12:30 pm, first MH goes off 1:30 pm, 2nd MH goes off at 6pm. PC Actinics go off at 7:30 pm. Tank is approxiamtely 95 gal 36" * 24" * 25" deep.

mine are about 18 inches directly under my 150w halide on the sand bed with decent flow. they are growing very well there and they have never lost there color.

I bought a colony of these about 4 months ago and took some Frags. The remaining Polyps didn't like me for about two months. They are now regaining their color and extension. My lighting is very similar to yours and they are on a plug on the sand bed about 16 inches from the 12k Halide and actinic VHOs. Try target feeding them.

you guys got any pics of your blue magicians?? Id like to see them

I havent seen any retail sites actually sellign them. Ive seen some sites using the name though. Usually they are just the speckled rpe's (which are also sweet)that also get misidentified as "magicians" at times. all are quite different polyps if you have them side by side

blue magicians arent even zoanthus gigantus(people eaters)

I don't have pics of mine but the polyps are much small than PEs. Mine are pencil eraser size while my green PEs are dime.

blue magicians are as large as any zoanthid I have ever had. I have a couple hundred of them in two different systems and they dwarf pretty much everything including most protopalys.

If you fry them with too much light too fast, they can shrink up like any polyp, but every time I have seen this, they show the brightest colors possible.

here is a crappy pic I just took camera is set up for different lights and I moved some stuff so everything is kinda closed....but a great pic for seeing their size. AoG's and pink zippers both are fairly large polyps and you can see the BM's clearly dwarf them both. the aogs arent any bigger than the oral disk on the bm's

they do shrink up some if you hammer them with light and get the blue to come out a little more. But even then they are large

mine look just like your 2nd picture except the skirt is starting to turn white. The polyps are smaller than my AOGs, about the size as my pinks or size of a pencil eraser. They could be young frag still growing but my green PEs are about 2.5 times bigger. The are bigger than my kedds redds? or that's what I think they are. Don't have many to go by yet.
