Blue Ochtodes

http://www.inlandaquatics.com/macro.html

I picked some up in person about a month ago but they still list it as in stock. The store colony was fairly small and was filled with a fuzzy red/pink algae as well. I got about a racquet ball size clump. I ended up dissapointed with it. it seems to look much better in pictures. I believe one of the employees grows it and brings it it.

Shipping is very high and they charge different prices in store then online.

blue ochtodes is beautiful macro but if you have a lot of coral this macro gets out of hand, pieces break off they hook all over and grow in places you dont want it. kind of like xenia.

I really doubt that the blue ball algae can be spreaded so easily in the reef systems for most hobbyists will keep one tang or more in their display tanks and the ochtodes won't stand a chance to survive without being eaten.

Well sir, that would depend on the tank people are keeping it in. I think its a great addition to nano tanks, where tangs aren't a possibility. That and some people keep nanos with no sump or remote refugium, and although some display algae can't compete with nuissance algae, I would say it certainly couldn't hurt.

i had so much of blue ochtodes my sump was full of it, it was all over my tank and in a hold tank set up just to hold it till weather would permit its shipping. and this all happened in a matter of a few months. i dont get where people say this is a slow grower. i read there are 2 types of it a reg variety and a dwarf variety which grows slow. i believe most out there is the reg variety and it really takes off. it became to much to keep after. thats if you have corals you dont want covered.
pulled it all and put turbos in the tank to finish the algae off. some urchins also will nibble on it
