my lfs got some blue palm corals in and i'd love to have one, however, i haven't been able to find any definitive info on them online on how hardy they are. i know they're a tunicate and not actually a coral, so they're a filter feeder. has anybody here had exerience with them? do i have to add phyto to my tank in order for it to survive? are they hardy? and can they be fragged? (i might want to split the piece with my friend). thanks guys!

here's a pic in case the name doesn't ring any bells:

they're asking 45 for a piece with like 8 stalks or so, that's i'm hoping to split it, so i don't have to pay so much.

Hi,
I don't think it is actually a coral.I think it is a tunicate if I remember correctly, but hopefully someone will confim this for you.HTH

wow that is really cool, if it were a little cheaper i would say you should impulse buy it just because its cool

My tunicates do just fine w/o a lot of attention. I have some colonial type and probably ten or so diff kinds. Don't have this kind, but my guess is just feed some kind of fine particulate or phyto. I feed mini cubes of frozen marine slurpee that I make from all kinds of stuff and they will take in obvious bits in the larger ones. I say get it. Pretty cool looking one.

I had one and could not keep it alive. I was adding phyto and cyclopeeze regularly. I know of at least one other person who could not keep theirs either. Definetely a stunning specimen but I would not recommend it. If someone can figure how to keep them alive I would love to have one.

Yes, I tried several different foods. They first lost their heads and then melted away. They are really neat looking but I won't buy another just to watch it die.
