Blue Reef Chromis

Does anyone have experience with the blue reef chromis. The write-ups say they have a peaceful tmeperment but I read somewhere where they school when young but kill off the weakest until there is only one left. I would like to add them to a 125 gal but don't want aggressive behavior. Jim

dont know much about the blue chromis, but the blue/green will certainly take each other out

I understand all the chromis are little rats except for the Blue Reef Chromis. They are rated ashaving a peaceful temperment but I'm looking for actual experience by someone. Thanks, Jim

I had 5 in a 30 gal observation tank. They chased each other around after getting settled in like other chromis.

Unfortunately lost them all to what looked like ich after adding a bunch of live rock.

I will try again after the ich die out.

Btw, I had two jump out of the tank.

Also, the ones at LA are SMALL!

I had a group of 5 in a 210g a few yrs ago. I didnt lose any in the the 9-12 months that I had them. Some folks report that they are more delicate than the blue/green chromis... but not from my experience.

I live in Florida & expected lfs's to carry them but after 18 months, I haven't seen them for sale. Live Aquaria but not sure the fish's origin. Jim

They kill off weaker ones when there is a food-issue. Most people don't feed their chromis as often as they should. They also like big groups, after all, they're a schooling fish. I'd say get yourself a dozen or more and an automatic feeder.

I had one years ago and it was the same temperment as a green chromis. Sorry, I don't have experience with them in groups. Mine was also small, at around 2". I read they can get up to 5" at full size, so definitely bigger then the green ones.

In my experience they are not that much better than the more common green chromis.

i have one in my 90g. and it was aggressive too my other fish (clowns)

I started with 12 about a year ago in my 240 and I am down to 6 by now, after the initial phase the schooling stopped and the chasing began.
currently the few big ones grew huge and the chasing subsided a bit hope these will stay as is.

I feed at least 3 times a day.

In any case they are beautiful fish, and add much with the unique color.
