yesterday i lost my blue spot jawfish that i had since may 09. it was eating great until sunday when i noticed it wasnt the first one out for food as usual. i saw that it had white patches on its skin and slimed up tail fin when it eventually came out. it ate a bit and went back to its burrow.

this is a pic from sunday, about 30mins before it passed away:

i just want to know, did it have the dreaded blue spot disease or was it brook? has anyone had a blue spot jawfish long term?

if i decide to get another fish, should i even try another BSJ or should I try the yellowheaded jawfish?

thanks in advance for input.

also to add:

i've been feeding all my fishes a varied diet of omega one veggie and marine flakes, new life spectrum pellets, rods food, hikari frozen mysis, usually soaked with vitachem or or selcon.

Also, i try to maintain water quality, 5g changes every week on my 34g. i feed only every other day but i make sure to target the BSJ extra because he had a voracious appetite.

my parameters were quite stable. no nitrate or nitrite. barely detectable ammonia (API test sucks). PH was always around 8.5 or so. temp ranges from 78-80, kept stable by my acjr.

looks bacterial if you see the sore towards the tail section. what new additions have you made to the tank lately?

really? i thought it might have been from the cleaner shrimp. he was pestering the fish before it died. i think it was targeting that sore.

i added a yellow coris wrasse. that was about it. i added it about 2-3 weeks prior to yesterday.

I had two pairs of yellow headed jaws, and lost the last one a week or so ago. I had them around six months. Three went blind, one died to some other disease. I fed three different food types with Selcon, Vitachem, and Garlic Extreme. I guess what I'm saying is, these can be picky fish.

ugh... i read thru reefcentral and i saw that a few people had this issue with these fish. i wish someone knew whats wrong...
