Blue spot jawfish in a tank without lid

In the haste of things I bought a blue spot jawfish from my Lfs because it is super rare in my area.

Unfortunately my tank does not have a lid so I am regretting it because I heard this fish are excellent jumpers

The water level in my tank is 9 inches below the top of the tank. So would these fish be able to jump as high as 9 inches?

You probably spent a nice chunk of money on this fish - spend the extra $15 & get it a screen lid. I guess more than 9" is certain. It's an unecessary risk in my opinion.

Get a lid and get a good fitting lid. The first one I got I put a make shift lid on and of course he jumped. I got a screen lid right after. Go to bulk reef supply and order the kit, it is not expensive.

what size tank do you have? Maybe you can get one asap from petco/petsmat/any Local Fish Store?

My tank had a canopy and the blue spot jumped out when the door was opened once. Definitely get a cover for this fish he's a jumper.

it literally takes 15minutes to make. I made one last night. I even notched the frame to run my powerhead cord through.

These are my favorite fish their character is off the charts and their colors are stunning. I have had 4 of these over the past 5 years and lost 2 to jumping. I would get your hands on formalin because they are very prone to blue spot disease which is very similar to brook. Three out of the four that I owned ended up getting this disease. It's like clock work just after two weeks they get it and formalin has been the only cure I have found both personally and on the forums.

If you want a good place for information check these guys out.
