Blue Spot Jawfish

I am wanting a Blue Spot Jawfish. I found one at a LFS for $75. Unfortunally I am not ready for fish yet. I asked them if they can get them in the future, He said yeah, not a problem. He also said that these fish are cold water fish around the 68 degreee mark. If I were to put it my reef tank, it would eventually die. Is there any truth to this?

Like all fish juveniles and sub-adults are best. Also your tank must have a section set up with substrate fit for jaw fish and then enjoy. I keep my tank around 75

I know about the substrate, I am using Fiji Pink. I was just concerned about what I was told about the cold water for the Jawfish.

Juveniles and sub-adults are not best for all fish. Some fish can be tricky to acclimate to captivity as juveniles or sub-adults, Achilles tangs come to mind in some instances. Also, keeping a tank around 75 for a cold water fish isn't going to be a success for a long time.

They are indeed a cold water fish and will perish in tropical temperatures, which most keep their tanks at. I suggest passing on one or keeping a cold water tank. Temps are something that fish cannot adapt to (ie: tropical fish living in cold water temps) like they can with lighting.

Looks like I will just got with a Tiger Jawfish. TY for the info!

If you are going to use Fiji Pink you will need to add shells and or something like fine puka shell so they can use it to build a burrow. The bluespot I have is around 5+ years old? I got it from a fellow member who was moving and did not want to take a chance so she gave her to me. I will restate my comment Juvenile and Sub Adult Jawfish do better than large adults. I have a Pearly in another tank that is 3+ years old, and I have have a Yellowhead Jawfish in yet another tank that is going on 2 years old. And yes I love Jawfish.

I disagree with that they will not survive in a reef tank kept at 76-77 degrees.
I have had 2 or 3 blue spotted jawfish over the last 15 years and each has survived for 3 years min...
