Blue Spot Naso

I am trying to get a fish list put together for my 72 bow front and my LFS has a 4" Blue Spot Naso for $45.00. It is very healthy and very active. I fell in love with it the instant I saw it, would a 72 be able to house it. I am thinking a reef dominated tank with just a few fish.

No it is not a Vlamingi Tang, it is a Lopezzi Tang. I know they are pretty close in coloring, but HOPING they are wildly different in size. The only reason I know it is not a Vlamingi is that he doesn't have the Unicorn style growth on his forhead.

Unfortunately 4 feet of tank just isn't big enough for any fish in the Naso family. Which is a real bummer because my favorite fish is a Naso Elegans and it just wouldn't be happy in my 90g tank. :(

Alrighty then, well that settles it then, I appreciate all of your inputs!!! Aside from the yellow tang, what would be a good tang reef dweller. Purple?

A small zebrasoma (besides a sailfin) or bristletooth should be fine in that size tank. The purple may get too aggressive so keep a careful eye on that if you decide to get one.

A Vlammingii tang gets to about 2' long and needs at least a 10' x 3' tank, around 550 gallons if the height is 30".

This should help you out. It lists common species of tang and minimum tank length required.

I think a purple tang would be a decent fit for your 72 gal. However, keep in mind that it is very aggressive, especially towards other tangs. It should be the last fish to be placed in your tank if you decide to get it.

Yea, so I think I am going to go with a KOLE YELLOW EYE or a brown. I just want something besides your everyday yellow or your dori...your typical blue tang. Both of which are beautiful, just want something different. Don't hate on me, but I really want a regal angel, which would be the center piece. I know all the pro's and con's, just want one though! Maybe an excuse to get a larger tank in the future!

The only reason I know it is not a Vlamingi is that he doesn't have the Unicorn style growth on his forhead.

Does it look like this one? This is a juv Vlamingii. Notice there is no growth on the forhead. IIRC only the males get the growth.
