blue spotted jawfish illness

My nemesis fish in college was a blue spotted jawfish.....no matter what, I couldn't keep one. I had a 20 gallon tank. Now I have a 90 with a powder blue tang, mcosker's flasher, and a pair of cinn. clowns. The blue spot has come down with an illness similar to the one I had in college. It looks as if it has an irritation on his lip. A little lose skin?? I don't know if I can get a good pic. All h2o parameters have checked out great. All other fish and corals are very healthy. Is it possible that it's irritated by a bristleworm. I have a large one that's about 8". I say this because of the amount of time the spend in the sand. Anyone?

flinster,

Is the jawfish in a stable space? I mean, has it dug a good burrow and is staying there? Bluespots that haven't settled in are prone to rushing about bumping into things, which of course can cause mechanical damage to the jaws. Another thing that I recently learned about these - when they aren't happy, they tend to leave their burrows at night and go "walk about". Again, this is typically when they get snout damage, or end up jumping out. Of seven of these fish that I've worked with in the past six months, 3 have done fine and 4 died of mechanical trauma - no diseases at all. I didn't quarantine any of these - they don't do well in a tank that they can't settle into - like a Q tank. I fully expected to run into parasite issues, but nope - just mechanical damage.

There is a disease called blue spotted jawfish disease which kills them. This may be the reason why they die.

So is it actually a disease, or a wound? Today, he's settled in a burrow and the mouth looks completely healed. Is there any way to provide a habitat that they are more likely to settle in? I have a DSB, lots of rubble for building a burrow, but in the beginning he couldn't seem to be happy with the burrows he cinstructed daily. Any suggestions?
