Beautiful Maxsquamies guys they look like maximas, but you have to look at the scutes on their shells those of the squamosa are much larger than those of the maximas and are not as close spaced, but this species is known to form hybrids so you may have one of those.
Here is a pic of the side of mine. I have my doubts whether this is true squamosa. It does seem like it has traits of both. For instance, the scutes are moderately spaced and the incurrent siphon is ringed with relatively elaborate tentacles. But on the other hand there is a smaller byssal opening (Maxima trait), but I read that the byssal opening on a squamosa gets smaller as the clam grows. Also the clam hasn't attached to the bottom of my tank (BB tank). I figured a maxima would attach itself. Another thing is that the clam looks to be symmetrical from what I can tell. I saw some maximas this weekend and they are definetly assymetrical. I guess time will tell, this clam is still pretty small and I am sure as it continues to grow the characteristics will become more prominent. What do you think??
