Blue Streak Cleaner Wrasse

mine doesnt really bother my fish... he will try and clean them every once in a while but usually keeps to himself.

I have never met anybody who bought them because they are a "beautiful" wrasse...

I have had my African one for about 10 years. I would not do it again but I have no plans to remove it.

Even African specimens, which tend to be easier to keep, can antagonize fish to the point they will be picked off. They do nothing to prevent, cure, or manage disease/illness/ich etc., like many people believe and unless they are in a large system they end up bothering the fish and the fish kill them. This is one fish I really wish was left in the ocean.

my fish all welcome the cleaning by completely freezing while the cleaner inspects them. they'll even open their gills and mouth for inspection. i have a cb butterfly that chases down the cleaner like its saying. "hey cleaner! remember me? clean me off"

Not all fish will allow cleaning (e.g. clownfish) although some love it (my Vlamingii Tang). In any case, a cleaner wrasse or cleaner shrimp will not eliminate ich or similar parasites from the fish. When a fish wishes to be "cleaned" they will assume a "cleaning position" or visit the shrimp's cleaning station.

Just use common sense when buying one.

-if it's skinny with a sunken belly then no
-if it was just shipped in from the wild then no
-if you have a small tank then no, these fish constantly eat, so pods are a must
-if you have aggressive wrasse, in a small tank then no, cleaners can become very skittish if harassed.

-and to reiterate, cleaner wrasses due not remove ick!! that along with cleaner shrimps are one of the biggest misconception in the hobby. Even LFS will promote this false relation.

Good advice. Over the years I have only purchased the African endemic and was always successful.
