Blue Tinted Stripe Amphiprion akindynos

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is the Coral Sea GBR dusky brown-orange form and the first two stripes have blue tint to them.

2.5 inches and 1.5

2.5 Female somewhat aggresive when i saw her the first day. They put the two in tanks next to each other for two days and then put them back. All is well now but they seem to be moving sluggishly. The smaller one was in the corner swimming against the rim. The larger female was swimming regularly and breathing fine as well as the male.

Has anyone seen a blue stripe variety and have pics. They are kind of QTing in the store till friday or saturday and they have two 6 inch red bubbletips.

they are EVERYWHERE out on the GBR, most of the Akindynos i've seen have a blue tint.
I think they go for $20-$30 per pair over here.

edr42,

Have you found that this variant occurs in a different location from the dark brown, very thin striped variants, or are they all intermixed?

My old Akiny

My old Akiny

My old akiny was tank bred and she was very dark with white stripes and a whole white tail. No blue tint.

The pair i have now is this variation with a blue tint and they are nice. Always jawing at eachother like cirrico's. There is clearly a female and male relationship.

Do you see them in pairs or family groups and what kind of Nems.

Most of the Akindynos are in pairs, and yes they are intermixed, at least as far as i've seen.
Bubble tips, and big carpet anemones seem to be the home of choice for these guys.
I'll see what photos i can find of them from the reef.
