Blue tang and a yellow tang?

I have a blue tang in my 90 gallon right now. he is kind of territorial and is about 2.5 inches. From your experiences, you think i could get a yellow tang without them killing each other? i know they will grow too big for the tank eventually, and I will put them in a bigger tank.

They will probably fight a little but will calm down after the new addition. They are from different genus so wouldnt be an issue with that. Should be fine.

thanks for the quick reply! i am considering a red sea sailfin or a yellow tang. which ever has better odds of staying alive. lol, opinions?

both are very similar fish as far as type/ease.... its up to you.. but dont do both. Same genus. I have had my yellow for quite some time... and I adopted a large sailfin from a friend. It nearly killed my yellow. I traded the sailfin in. Yellow is still doing well.
Make sure you get nori (can get it at kroger) and a clip to feed them whichever tangs you may choose.

Both Tangs would eventually need a larger tank especially the sailfin as it can reach 15 inches. I have a naso, blue hippo, yellow, bariene and a vlamingi tang and all get along well. In such a small tank I wouldn't mix tangs that are in the same genus, zebrasoma, acanthuras, etc if your not going to upgrade. I have had both a yellow and red sea purple tang but both were added at the same time and they also got along.

go with the yellow. as others have said sailfins get pretty big. get a small one as well this way it wont be cramped. just dont wait too long before realizing they've become too big for the tank

i got a yellow tang about the same size of the blue tang. so far so good, lets c how it turns out! lol, thanks again guys!

I all. I purchased a small Blue Hippo yesterday. I have a fish only 55 gallon aquarium. I've had a yello tang in there for about 3 weeks before I added the Blue Hippo. These two are not getting along. I rearanged the live rock in the aqurium giving the smaller blue tang ALOT of cover making it difficult for the yellow to attack it. Its been about 3 hours or so since the reorganization of the live rock... The yellow has still tried to attack it, but he blue one his fighint back like Rocky in Rocky II against the much larger Russian boxer. I also have 2 clown fish (about the same size as my blue tang). I noticed that while the yellow tang was pre occupied trying to attack the blue tange the clown fish suddently became more edventurious and go to all different parts of the tank. My local fish store will take the Yellow tang off my hands and give me 20.00 credit. I think this yellow tange is a big too territorial for my tastes. What should I do? Wait a few days and see what happens? Take the yellow tange back and get the 20.00 credit that I would like to use for a red fire angle (dwarf) or another type of fish. I like the blue tang better then the yellow any ways. Any suggestions?

Ideally, take both back. But, if you really want to keep one, the yellow would be a better fit (( though I still think neither is a good fit in a 55 )), then the blue hippo, which should grow to over a foot long.
