blue tang died

my powder blue tang which ive had for about 2 mths. now suddenly died last nite.
he was fine earlier in the week than all of a sudden last nite he didnt come out. i found him behind a rock and looked like he had ich.
funny thing is everyone else is ok and there have been no additions nothing new in my tank for about 2 mths. he was my last addition.
my water quality and temps are all stable. i wonder why he died?
anyone have an idea?

what were you feeding? was he eating it? how did you determine he had ich?

What other fish do you have maybe 1 of the other fish stressed him out

well, he was eating up until he died. funny thing is he looked really healthy and normal. he ate like a pig, nori and mysis. then all of a sudden boom. found him behind a rock, pulled him out and he had some white spots on him...ick.
maybe my sixline harrassed him.. hes a lil bully. thats all i can think of.

Ich can stay dormant if not completely cleared up from a previous episode, I think.

I had the same thing happen to a power blue a while back... don't think i'm going to try them again. beautiful fish tho.

Ich would have showed up sooner than 2 months. Marine ich does not lie dormant
PBT are not the easiest fish to keep...some people have good luck with them but most don't adjust to captivity.
Have you added any new coral or live rock? If so, there is a possibility that they could carry parasites if in the same tank as fish.
Sorry for your loss, they are the prettiest fish

What size tank was it in? Could he have been stressed? Sometimes it takes a couple month for a fish to die in a situation where he eats but is constantly stressed. These aren't the hardiest fish to begin with, it does happen.

While lack of hardiness and/or ich may have been the cause for the tang's demise, I have to caution the fellow hobbyists that just because a fish is eating and swimming around, it does not mean it's in good health. I have seen this with many different types of fish, but unless the environment is drastically wrong, a fish will eat and swim until the day it dies. They, and most of the living organisms, have to do this because millions of years of evolution tells them to do so in order to survive.

We as the caretakers need to be able to develop eyes to spot anything abnormal, and fix it immediately.

Is the tank near a window, door or heating and air vent. According to size of tank an open door or window can as well as an ac vent near the tank can drop temps and recover again over night. Its my personel thought that ich is like a cold if the ac comes on by the tank and drops the temp 5 degrees it will reheat but may have already given the fish ick even thou later you check the temp is fine.

:hmm4: Guys this is an 8 year old thread.

But yes, fish don't contract and die from ich overnight. He likely had it or something else was wrong with him given the short period that the op had the fish.
