Blue Tang freaking out...

I've checked everything, no other fish are showing signs of stress, yet my blue tang appears very nervous. So much so that it has opened a sore where his dorsal fin is from lodging himself in the rocks.

There have been no recent changes to the tank, all tests appear in line, only one recent fish addition was a Flame Firefish but his behaviour started before it was added.

I am concerned as he did not even come out for dinner last night and that was a first.

Any ideas what may be causing him to have a drastic change in behaviour? I am concerned because of the sore now appearing on his dorsal fin area from lodging himself into the rocks.

Any insight is appreciated!

Is it the tank size?

I tried to tell the fiance when we bought him but choose not to pick that fight. Over ruling fiance at that point was not an option..."but he's soooo cute!"

We've had him for 6 months with no issues.

How big is the tang? I kept one that was 3.5" in my 90 for quite some time, then I sold him to a fellow reefer. If he's only a few inches I woudn't think that would be the problem, if he's 5", that may be a different story.

My blue tang would always lodge between some rocks when it slept, however it was always out ready for something to eat.

Can you post pictures of it along with the wound?

As I was afraid of, Indi, our blue tang died yesterday. Our first death of anything in our tank since it was established over a year and a half ago. No known cause, everything else looks fine, and did a 15% water change just to assure nothing spikes as far as water quality.

Fiance was very sad last night as it was her favorite fish. :(

Thats a bummer. I had a blue die because my GFI tripped and the tank was down for 7hrs.

On you water parameters did you check everything. I know I sometime leave the most common ones out.

salinity
ph
nitrites
alk

some fish are more sensitive then others.
