Blue Tang Freakout!

Do you guys ever see your Blue Tang shake violently and spaz out every once and a while? I'm guessing that She sees her reflection or something??

does it shake its head around like its trying to get something off of it? if so it might have flukes. a fw dip will get them off if thats the case, but if they are on the fish they are most likely in your tank as well

Do you mean a hippo tang? Or Atlantic Blue?

Our 2 year old hippo (who has been through copper and prazi) will some times be zooming along, and stop suddenly, and look like he/she is going to swim backwards or something. Kind of a "spaz" move. Will do it a few times in a row. lol

We have no idea why - it's right in the middle of the 180, near the bottom.

I think they just get bored..play in the current or something. Probably the same reason he/she moves small rocks and shells around the tank.

However - head shaking can certainly be an indication of flukes!

i agree, my salfin does the same thing, but he just swims really fast then he will stop suddenly, not too much of the shaking though

There is nothing wrong with you blue hippo.
I have one for last 5 years and he does that too, also when he gets exited the strip on his side turns completely yellow and after lights are off he goes under arock and sleeps flat on his side.

Thank you, I'll research this angle..

My hippo is neurotic as well - shakes it's head and swims up and down in one corner of the tank sometimes.

I wouldn't worry too much. My yellow tang does the same thing your tang does. It likes to swim along, stop suddently next to the glass and does a little shake.

I think Dori on Finding Nemo is a pretty accurate representation of a hippo. Theyre super nurotic.

i have to agree i have one who thinks its the 3rd in a love triangle of the established pair of gold striped maroon clownfish...i just moved my tank to my new house and my blue hippo "clownfish" has moved right back into his love triangle

To add, as long as the tang is not "scratching" against the bottom or against rocks it's likely nothing. Scratching could imply a parasite.
