i have a blue tang who has recently got these white hair things in him it may be scrapes from the rock. ive seen him with thm before but never this bad does anyone know what this is?
A picture would be helpful as some times it's hard to tell what it is just for a description. As for a blue tang do you mean a Hippo tang? If it's a Hippo tang they are substabale to getting dieases a lot more than other fish.
If it's just scrapes from the rock you should see it starting to heal up in a couple of days. If he is consistanly rubbing against rocks they he may have some thing. At that point you probably want to remove him to a QT tank.
It sounds like ick to me. Obviously I'm making that call without a picture, which isn't ideal, but white strings and scraping on rocks sounds pretty typically.
I would get him out of that tank and into a hospital tank. There are plenty of threads in the disease forum about different treatment options. I personally like hyposalinity, but you have to make sure you have a refractometer for good accuracy.
